Picnicking in Kabul

One of the best things to do on the weekend here is drive out of the city for a picnic. I have been on a few now, but last weekend takes the cake.

I drove with my fellow workers from the Mediotek about an hours north of the city into some mountains where their boss has a “weekend retreat”. This is an impressive looking empty building.

We based ourselves on top of a small hill. We set up a carpet, some cushions and some wooden outdoor seats. The view was spectacular. From our perch we could see high, snow covered peaks in one direction, rocky mountains in another and below us were rolling green hills where locals were driving their sheep.

We lunched on kebab and drank tea. And after lunch, we climbed some of the rocky mountains behind us. The air was so amazingly fresh and such a change from Kabul. The sun was shining and the day was beautiful.

It was such a simple, but lovely way to spend a day.

I know people are looking forward to pictures, but internet here is not good, and it makes it difficult. I'm working on it I promise.
